Everything will be okay

Today is about change.  Change is not always scary and huge and horrifying but most of the time, it is.  I feel like I will look back at this time in my life and miss it.  Miss living on love and a little girl that thinks I'm a rockstar just for being her momma.  I will miss working hard with my little family to reach our goals.  But for now, It's just scary.  But I'm reminding myself that I can do anything but not everything.  Some things will be neglected and forgotten about, but as long as I make sure the important things aren't, everything will be okay.

Halloween Inspiration

Refashion: Baby Sweater

You will need:

An old adult sweater. 

(Mine is a mens sweater that I wore during my last pregnancy)

wrapping paper or scrapbook paper for your pattern

A sweater that fits your child well

pantry items:

sewing machine

scissors

thread

scrap fabric (optional)

First take a sweater that fits your child well and cut out a pattern.  Fold the sweater in half and cut a piece for the body and a piece for the arms.  I just used old scrapbook paper but you could use anything really.  Take your old sweater and cut out a piece for the front, back and both arms.  Make sure to add 1/2 inch seam allowance to all pieces.  Try to find a part of the sweater that will make it more interesting or in my case I turned the sleeves inside out so the writing wouldn't show.  Also cut the ribbing from sleeves and the bottom if you would like your sweater to have it.  Now sew it back together just like the large one and wallah! A mini version.  I originally put a hood on this one but it didn't over her head so I had to scrap it.  But the best part is this fabric doesn't fray so any alterations are no big deal.  She also requested some hearts on the front.

Read it this week

You must read Baby Rabies if you haven't.  I've laughed out loud and sighed with agreement to this blog all week long.  She is such a clever writer and hilarious.

Cotton and Curls is the best refashion blog out there.  Her projects are totally doable and her directions are easy to follow.  And hello, fabric spray paint this week!  yes, please.

Blue Eyed Freckle is a must read if you need some creative inspiration.  She is uber talented and is very sweet.  She doesn't post often but when she does it's worth it.

On being crafty

I have no formal education other than high school.  I don't mention this because I have some sort of complex about it.  I simply do not.  (seriously, stop it)

I was happily married at 18 and circumstances greater than me did not provide any opportunity for such a thing.  I tell you this because when I'm being described by friends and family members the words 'she's crafty' are often thrown around.  Being put in place of fancier titles. (nurse, brain surgeon, journalist)  I don't think it's true.  Any fool that can read can figure out how to sew.  But alas,  that is the title given.  It's flattering really.  I love the idea of being inspired by someone or something to create and making something beautiful.  (cheesy, I know)  So with this blog I hope to chronicle some things and hopefully get some great inspiration from others.  

Now lets not get too wordy.  We can't read blogs ALL day.
